MUSIC

On the 4th of June 2021 the Mercedes big band 1 and 2 came to our school. We played lots of songs and had lots of fun. It was great listening to them play. They are all very talented musicians.

Congratulations Sienna!

A huge congratulations to Sienna Mueller, who won the Rotary Club of Unley Songwriting Competition.

After completing a songwriting course with Tabor Music Department and performing for the Unley Rotary Club, Sienna was one of three finalists selected. She then went on to perform at Concordia College in front of a musical panel of judges and was announced as the 2021 Songwriting Competition Winner in the 10-13 year old age group. Well done Sienna!

Instrumental Evening

The St. Joseph’s Music Instrumental Evening is almost here! Join us this Wednesday 23rd June. This concert gives all students who are learning a musical instrument at St. Joseph’s an opportunity to play a solo piece in a smaller group setting.

There will be 3 seperate concerts starting at 4:00pm, 5:15pm and 6:30pm which will be held in the church. Please check with Mrs Steph Insanally if you are unaware of which concert your child will be performing in.

Please bring a gold coin donation for entry. The students are looking forward to showing you all that they have learnt!

Friends of Music
The newly formed Friends of Music group welcomes parents and friends of the St Joseph's community who are enthusiastic about contributing to the school's music program. We meet once a term, with our main focus to fundraise and develop projects that focus on supporting the music opportunities and resources for all students at our school. Studies show that regular, ongoing music education (and especially learning an instrument) has a wealth of benefits for students and can have positive effects on school work, as well pro-social behaviour and developing empathy.
The Friends of Music will be helping out at the music events in the next couple of weeks, so please say hi and feel free to ask any questions you might have. On behalf of FOM, I would like to thank Mrs Steph Insanally for all of her hard work getting the group up and running. I look forward to sharing the news of what we are up to in the coming months.
If you are interested in seeing some of the ways that learning an instrument can set off fireworks in your brain, check out this awesome video HERE that was made by the music neuroscientist Dr Anita Collins.
