Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival – SA Aquatics Centre Marion

Congratulations to the 17 children that competed at the Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival on Friday 25^th March at SA Aquatics Centre Marion. The team was selected after several early morning training sessions at Mitcham Girls Pool. Unfortunately, not all Swimmers could be selected and I’d to thank ALL swimmers that came along to the training sessions.

The school had some outstanding results on the day with special mention to Emily D who won all her Division A races and won the age champion award for year 6 competitors. Special mention also to Arabella W who won all her Division B races.

Special mention to also Clara, Domenic, James who raced in two relay races on the day, one after the other and finished a commendable 3^rd in Year 3 race and 4^th in year 4 race.

The school also won the overall year 6 pennant and year 5 pennant, which means we accumulated the most points in those year levels. The school also finished an overall 2^nd out of eight schools on the day.

Special thanks to Mrs Bridget Hughes for her help at all the early morning training sessions and on the Carnival Day. Thank you also to our parent helpers Angela Cassidy, Emily Anderson and Belinda Daunt for volunteering their time to officiate at the Carnival.

SAPSASA Swimming Carnival – Marion Outdoor Pool

Congratulations to Emily D, Claire D and Arabella W on their outstanding performances on Wednesday 23^rd March at the SAPSASA Swimming Carnival at Marion Outdoor Pool.

The results were:

• Emily D – 1st -100m Freestyle, 1^st – 50m Freestyle, 1^st 50m Breastroke, 1^st – 50m Butterfly
• Claire D – 1^st – 50m Backstroke, 3^rd in Freestyle
• Arabella W - 2^nd – 50m Breastroke, 2^nd -50m Backstroke, 3^rd – 50m Freestyle, 3^rd - 100m Freestyle

Congratulations Emily

Emily D recently competed in the 2022 SA State Long Course Swimming Age Championships against the state’s best swimmers. It was a rewarding and exhausting week with her many hours of early morning practices and after school trainings paying off with commendable results. 

Her dedication and love for swimming enabled her to quickly progress from Junior swimming into Bronze Squad in just 10 months! Furthermore, to qualify for the championship was an achievement that Emily worked tirelessly to achieve. 

Some of the highlights of the weekend was her winning gold in 100m Butterfly with a personal best time improvement of nearly 4 seconds (that’s BIG in swimming!) and being selected to participate in the club girls Relay Teams. All the other girls were 12 years old, but this didn't stop Emily posting the second fastest team leg time!

Her final results were:

Total Points: Marion Swim Club top female swimmer - 11 year olds

Gold: Medley Relay & 100m Butterfly

Silver: 200m Free Relay, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly (0.03 seconds away from gold!) &200m Individual Medley

4th: 100m Breaststroke & 100m Freestyle 

National Age Medals: 3 x Gold & 2 x Silver
