FROM THE DEPUTY - Spotlight on Learning
At St Joseph's we have some fabulous learning that occurs throughout a term and I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some of the amazing work that has been happening.
Chocolatiers
As part of their Science inquiry on reversible and irreversible changes, our Yr 3/4's have taken on the role of Willy Wonka himself and designed their own type of chocolate. The students first began with some observations of the properties of chocolate where they identified chocolate could be heated and cooled. Students were then involved in a chocolate tasting where they tried a number of different food items with chocolate. This allowed them to identify what ingredients are best paired with chocolate. Next, the children began to design their chocolate bar logos and wrappers. To create these items we looked at branding and how people market different items.
This then led to the children analysing commercials and identifying the different ways companies convince them to buy their products. They looked at humour, celebrity endorsements, music, and brand recognition before storyboarding and creating their own commercial. Last week we had some fabulous parent volunteers come in to help the children make their chocolate. The year 3/4 students will be launching their products to market this coming Wednesday where they will receive feedback from staff and parents. We cannot wait to taste their creations.
