Behind the Scenes
In partnership with Corwin University, the staff at St Joseph's have been on a learning journey over the last three years. The teachers have been working through the Visible Learning Program. This program focuses on how we can understand children more deeply so we can best support their learning. A couple of weeks ago we had other teachers from Catholic Education South Australia come out to St Joseph's to see how we support the children with their learning.
We use a number of strategies that you may have noticed to achieve this. In all our classrooms you will see "Our Progress Walls. These prompts are designed to be used by students to support them in identifying what their next steps are. We also use a Learning Intention to explain to the students what they will be learning in that lesson as well as the Success Criteria which is developed with the students' help. This allows children to understand the different steps they need to take to be successful in class.
By making the Learning Visible and not expecting children to "guess what is in the teacher's head," we are supporting EVERY learner to be successful.
