EXPLORING OUR LOCAL AREA - EXCURSION TO MITCHAM LIBRARY
As part of our Sounds of Australia Unit, students in year 1 and 2 have been learning how to represent places spatially and how to collect, sort, and record data effectively. This term, we’ve been focusing on our local area, combining our learning across subjects in a hands-on and engaging way.
During our recent excursion to Mitcham Library, we used maps to guide our walk, linking directly to our Maths mapping unit. Along the way, we observed street names and used directional language to describe our route and surroundings.
At the library, students observed and recorded the features of the space, connecting with our "Sounds of Australia" unit. We listened carefully to the natural sounds by the creek and explored our senses in the sensory garden. Usingd iPads, we captured our observations and reflections.
We also had important conversations about digital safety, especially because we are uploading our work to Seesaw to share with others. Students were reminded to ensure no people are included in their photos.
It was a wonderful opportunity to bring together learning from many subject areas in our local area.
