We have reached the half way point of term 3 already! The first few weeks of this term have been very exciting and busy for everyone. The Art Exhibition held in week 4 was a wonderful community event, where the students skills, creativity and artistic talent was on show for all to see! I was delighted with the number of families who were able to come along and engage with Arts learning – and contribute to our new playground development by purchasing some high quality art!
Last week we celebrated Book Week in our classrooms and through our annual Book Week parade. This year’s theme has been “Reading is my Super Power” that Kingswood was especially safe on Friday, with so many super heroes around!

Saturday night’s Quiz Night was an outstanding event, and I am grateful to everyone for coming along, having some fun and supporting our school community. Congratulations to the P&F, especially Sally Stansborough and Katie Routley, for their hard work coordinating and executing such a fun evening. Thanks also to Mark Stansborough and Jame Loechel, for delivering such an exceptional quiz. All funds raised will, of course, contribute to the re-development of our playgrounds.
We are eagerly awaiting first concept drafts of what our new playground space could look like. As soon as they become available, we will provide the community with images, details and invite further feedback about the space.
This Friday, 30 August, we will celebrate all dads, grandads and important male role models with our annual Father’s day breakfast. Please come along and share a meal with your sons and daughters – on us!
Recently, Jamie and I attended some professional learning at a conference in Melbourne. The focus of the conference was around ‘Visible learning-evidence into implementation.’ It formed a part of an ongoing school improvement project that all staff are involved with, and focussed on ensuring that all students have a clear idea of what they are learning, why they are learning it and how they can be actively involved in the learning and identify what they have learned. At St. Joseph’s Kingswood our ongoing commitment is for children to make at least one year’s learning progress for every year they are at school. As a staff we are committed to continuous improvement in our practice – we are lifelong learners as well!
As a school we are beginning to plan ahead for the 2020 school year – particularly in relation to the construction of class groups. We anticipate our class structures being largely the same as 2019, and staffing will be finalised by early term 4. There will be a letter circulated via SZapp this week, inviting feedback from families regarding placements for 2020.
I want to congratulate Mutsa Mupandawana and Felix Polasek, who have been selected to represent the City South SAPSASA Soccer team in this year’s carnival. Felix and Mutsa continue a long tradition of our school being represented in this way, which given our size relative to some much larger public schools is a testament to our excellent Phys ed and sports program and the commitment our you as parents.
Have a great week everyone,
God Bless,
Phil.
Hi all and welcome to Week 6! I hope all is going well as we journey towards to the of the term. There has been so many things going on that it’s hard to keep up with it all. We’ve had Footsteps, Cross-Country and Volleyball carnivals and the Art evening, just to name a few.
Last week we had Book Week. This is a great time for students as we celebrate the life that reading gives our children. The students of course, just love the opportunity to dress up for the Book Week Parade. It was great to see them enjoying themselves. Thanks to all of the parents who helped their children get their costumes ready. I am sure they appreciated it.
On Saturday night we held our St Joseph’s Kingswood Quiz Night. This was the first St Joseph’s Quiz Night that I have attended and I must say it was a lot of fun. It was great to see so many people dressed up in their denim having good time and sharing in the fun with the friends and families of our great school. I hope those who could make it enjoyed themselves too. As you may know the money raised will directly towards our new play space.
On 8th September many of our students from Year 3, 4 and 5 classes will receive First Communion for the first time. This is a very special time in their lives and we invite you to come and join us in welcoming these students honour Catholic community. The mass will start at 9.30am and there will be a special morning tea in the hall. We would love to see you there if you could make it.
Take care,
Jamie
Thank you to everyone who supported the Quiz Night on Saturday. The event was such a success and great fun to see so many of the school community supporting the event and fundraising towards the new nature play area for the school. We are still finalising the final dollar amount, but we are stoked to say that we raised in excess of $5400!!
This event wouldn't have been possible without Sally Stansborough (Jack's Mum) and Katie Routley (Elsie's Mum) who championed the entire event. Without your countless hours of coordinating, measuring, mapping, liaising and crafting - we wouldn't have had a Quiz Night to bring the school community together (in quite possibly 80% of the denim available at the Salvo's stores throughout Adelaide) to raise the funds.
Very big thank you also to Mark Stansborough (Jack's Dad) & James Loechel (Oscar & Jasper's Dad)– Quiz Masters keeping us all challenged and on track throughout the night. Thank you for pulling together such an entertaining evening of questions (and A-grade photoshop skills as evidenced in the PowerPoint presentation).
Mark Routley (Elsie's Dad) – Bar Tender extraordinnaire, thank you for keeping us all watered for the evening.
Rosalie Yandell (Allegra & Libby's Mum), Belinda Fox (Owen's Mum) and Melissa Porcaro (Antonio's Mum)– who did some serious leg-work running around to local businesses asking for and collecting donations, without which we wouldn’t have had the amazing array of prizes tonight. Thank you also for pulling together decorations and helping with the room set-up.
Paris Loechel (Oscar & Jasper's Mum) – thank you for arranging and collecting the premium wines that were on sale at the Bar, as well as lending a hand in the set-up, and also roping your husband into being one of the Quiz Masters!
Danielle Laundy (Abbie & Grace's Mum), Lucy Sach (Henry's Mum) – thank you for providing support re: how the finances work for these events, as well as helping with the room set-up and for a last minute dash for some extra wine from Penfold's.
Bianca Bedson (Maggie's Mum)– thank you for managing the online bookings, communications and supporting Sally & Katie
Makella Holden (Isla and Nate's Mum)– thank you for being our P&F Leader this year and for all of your efforts in helping with the evening (including lending Matt for some of the heavy lifting in the set-up and pack down).

Congrats to the team that won, The Denim Caps. We hope you enjoy the goodie basket of prizes, and most importantly, bragging rights until the next Quiz Night.
Lastly - thank you to all of the businesses that supported the Quiz Night. Please consider showing them some love if you're in the market for any of their associated goods/services.
On Wednesday the 21st of August 2019, our school participated in the year 4 to 7 SAPSASA Volleyball Carnival at Marion Fitness and Leisure Centre. We entered, a year 4/5 boys and a year 4/5 girls team and a year 6/7 girls and a 6/7 boys team. All teams played 3 games each. This was run by Jodie Milde, Lauren Milde and Eleni Sremcevic. They also coach year 3 to 7 volleyball for the school on Friday nights. Mr Deverson and Mr Shultz attended and helped out and so did lots of other parents. It was a great day and all the kids had lots of fun.
The 4/5 boys team had a great results and won all three of their matches and have a good chance to make it to the next round. The 4/5 girls team also won all of their matches and have the opportunity to move to the next round too. The 6/7 girls team were very competitive and won 2 out of their 3 matches and unfortunately did not qualify for the next round. The 6/7 boys team had 3 very tough matches and won 1 of their 3. Great effort boys.
The next round will be held on September 11th, which is the finals. Good luck to both the 4/5 teams. We hope you qualify and do well. I also wanted to thank Mr Shultz, Mr Deverson and Mr D for organising this great day and thanks for your support. It was a really fun day and I hope we can do it next year.
