FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Schultz_Phil.jpg

I hope families, particularly the children, have felt supported and encouraged as we settle into the beginning of the 2019 school year! The children and staff have been enthusiastically engaged in our ‘Wellbeing Week’ activities. These lessons have all been built around developing safe and respectful class structures and expectations, establishing sound peer relationships and beginning to teach some key competencies for learning. These competencies are those skills that our learners will need to productively participate in the learning process, and ultimately be prepared for the world they are inheriting! These include a sense of our own identity, an ability to manage ourselves, communication, collaboration, our capacity to be critical thinkers, to name a few.  As the year progresses, we will be incorporating these skills into our learnings on a regular basis. I, along with the teaching staff, am confident, you will see the impact of this purposeful start to the year on the way the children engage with their learning.

This Friday (15 February), we will host our first Parents & Friends meeting, to coincide with the first Coffee Connect morning. All families are very welcome to engage with our Parents & Friends group. It is a fantastic way to become involved in your child’s school community, and to have a say in how our community develops over time! In the evening,  I strongly encourage all families to come along to our WELCOME Gathering. The first hour allows for open classrooms. This will be a great opportunity to both witness first-hand, some of the children’s learning, have a chat with their teacher and then enjoy some time catching-up with old and new friends, with our Picnic on the Green. For details of this and other school events, have a look at the SZapp calendar.

At the beginning of every school year, our community welcomes many new faces! This year, we welcome:

James Anderson Sophie Meys
Rose Burvill Emese Mihaly
Emily Cooke Hannah Milne

Thank you for downloading SZapp. It will be the primary source of information regarding our school community as we seek to deliver our families with more proactive, streamlined communication in 2019. (The Seesaw app remains the conduit between classroom and home.) SZapp has replaced Skoolbag as it has improved functionality to allow us to provide a more "one-stop-shop" platform. To ensure you receive up-to-date information, check that your Notifications are turned on (refer to the link below if you're unsure).

Last Friday’s Beginning of the Year Mass was a great way to start our year, and it allowed us to formally install our student leaders for 2019. We congratulate the following student who are undertaking leader role this year:
