I hope all is well with you. We have had a successful beginning to term 4, with lots of learning, fun and activity. The students have quickly settled back into the school routine and are enjoying being with their classmates again and it has been great hearing the various holiday adventures the students have had.
School sporting success
After having to reschedule the day due to weather, the day dawned with grey skies and threatening rain. Despite this, our carnival got under way and while there were a couple of showers during the morning, we got through to the end! Congratulations to Tenison (Gold) for winning the carnival in style. Mackillop (Blue) and McCormack (Red) were very competitive on the day, and overall, the spirit and positivity of the children shone through. My sincere thanks to Steven DeGiovaniello for his organisation of the carnival, and to all staff who worked hard to ensure a successful day.
Our year 6 Knockout Cricketers took on McAuley Community school in round one of the SAPSASA Knockout Cricket… and came away with the win! Well done to all team members and coach, Craig Medlow. Our next opponent will be Dernancourt Primary School, and we wish the team good luck.
The SAPSASA district athletics selection carnival was held recently, our school was well represented and experiencing success in many events. We are waiting to hear which students have been successful in being selected in the district team. The Catholic schools carnival is imminent and our students have recently been involved in selection trials – more to come!
Book Week
Last Friday, we kicked Book Week off in style, with our annual Book Week Parade. I was very impressed with the effort the children-and teachers- put into their costumes, which were creative and colourful! This week we are celebrating the world of books through the theme, 'Curious Creatures, Wild Minds' with class activities celebrating many of the short listed books.
Disney on Cambridge
By now, I’m sure you’ve had the chance to watch this year’s Disney on Cambridge virtual school concert. Whilst it wasn’t quite the same as being in the Vogue theatre, I’m sure you would agree that it was an amazing effort to bring the event to life, in the virtual space. My sincere thanks to Steph Insanally, Mary Rose Coghlan, Matt Richards and Michelle Page for their efforts in getting the show done!
Building program progressing well
Our building program is really coming to life! Our builders, Cook Building, have done a fantastic job of keeping the process on schedule, and while it is a bit difficult to get a sense, I can assure you that there is plenty happening behind the screens! At this stage, we are still very much on track to be completed comfortably in time for the beginning of the 2021 school year. I want to thank all families for their patience and goodwill in managing the disruption during the build and I am sure you will all be delighted with the outcome!
Year 6 camp
As you read this newsletter, I am with our intrepid Year 6 group, on Kangaroo Island. We have been looking forward to this camp for some time, and we look forward to sharing our experiences with you, once we return! I know that the year 5 group is also looking forward to their camp to Narnu, later in the term.
Have a great week everyone,
God Bless,
Phil

Hi everyone and welcome to Week 3!
I hope you had a great holiday period and were able to spend some enjoyable moments with your children. We managed to get away for a bit to Marion Bay. This was a great spot to visit and we enjoyed exploring the local area on our bikes and visiting the rock pools at the Kangaroo Island lookout spot. If you haven’t been there, I highly recommend it.
Last week we held our annual Book Week parade. It was great to see our students all dressed up as a character from their favourite book. They especially loved showing off their creations and high fiving their school mates during the parade. The Year 6s also went above and beyond coordinating a dance to one of their favourite songs. I have to say the song was a little weird but their performance was heart-warming as they all sang and danced together.
In Week 7 this term we will hold our St Joseph’s Got Talent competition. Auditions will be in Week 6 during recess and lunch and we will have an audience come along and watch the children perform. Students have a few weeks now to prepare and get their acts ready. I have had many discussions and requests already and I know this is an occasion the students really enjoy. I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
Take care,
Jamie

SAPSASA Cricket - round 1
On Wednesday 14th October the St Joseph’s Year 6 cricket team played in a knockout cricket carnival against McAuley Community School. We won the game by fifty runs. We batted first and the top scorers were Tom Peterson with 23 runs, Lucas Thompson with 18 runs and William Pittman with 17 runs. Next we bowled and Archie Lippis took two wickets for four runs scored off his two overs. We also got three run outs with brilliant throwing skills by Lucas Thomson and Leo Raschella. Welcome back everyone for Term 4. Hope all families had a safe and enjoyable break.
Vacation Care was very busy and everyone had lots of fun with the incursions and excursions.
Thankyou for the positive remarks which were passed on from the families. We appreciate all feedback.
Thought we would share.
Michelle F - My 2 girls loved Vacation Care so much they did not want to leave to come home. The staff were beautiful, the kids had a ball, and we will definitely will be back. Thank you for having us.
Melissa H - Thank you for an amazing Vacation Program. Piper loves coming.
Colleen T - Aibilian loves coming to Vacation Care, the staff are all very approachable and plan activities that the children really enjoy. OSHC is also very handy during the school weeks, being able to book last minute is so helpful.
This term we received a sports grant. The Service chose softball. An independent coach will come Tuesday afternoons, starting Tuesday 27 October.
It is compulsory for all children to wear hats during term 4. If your child does not have one we will provide an OSHC hat. There will be a laundering fee of $5.00. Alternatively you can leave a bucket hat for your child at OSHC.
We have lots of different activities planned for this term. It is possible to now view the program on ZSapp.
Any suggestions we would love to hear from you.
