Dear families and friends,
The saying it takes a village to raise a child, was highlighted on Friday night when a number of our students were Confirmed. The St Joseph’s ‘village’ gathered, although a bit smaller than usual due to COVID restrictions. Observing the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, cousins and parishioners who gathered in support of the children as they received the Sacrament was a delight. Everyone was so proud to witness each candidate in choosing to continue as members of the Church in their own right, with their sponsors standing strong with them in their journey.
A special thank you to the parents, sponsors, parishioners, Sr Jasmine, Mrs Farrugia and Fr John for preparing the children and the celebration. We look forward to celebrating First Communion with these students in the coming Sunday Masses.
As the students begin this next stage in their faith life, following Jesus’ footsteps, we pray as a community that they trust and have faith that the Spirit is with them as they make decisions, celebrate learn and live.
COVID Restrictions
I was meeting with a new family, and we were all wearing masks. Right at the end the mother took of her mask briefly. I was surprised at how different she looked with the mask off. It made me think, this is a strange way meet people on a first occasion. In the same meeting, I was giving a 4-year-old a reassuring smile behind my mask! Our eyes tell a lot, but not the full picture, I don’t think he was getting a clear message. It made me wonder what it must be like for very young children when they meet people wearing masks. I am grateful for people wearing masks and hopeful for a time when we can again share a smile.
Further, I am grateful for the way our community is responding to the situation we find ourselves and are accepting of the impact, including the ongoing requirement for us to minimise adults on school grounds when students are at school to keep each other safe. Fortunately, we are able to continue most events and programs for students so they can still enjoy the experiences. Coming up we have the Book Week Costume Parade this Thursday, the Opening of our new buildings and the School Disco on 3rd of September, which parents are unable to attend. We will take photos and share the experiences with you the best we can. Thank you for your understanding.
Before and After School Reminders
Pick up and drop off on Cambridge Terrace please remember it is a NO PARKING ZONE –You may stop in a No Parking zone to immediately pick up or set down your child and drive off as soon as possible. No Parking zones are to ensure a quick and smooth turnover of vehicles. You must not leave your vehicle parked or unattended. Keeping cars moving through the zone helps keep children safe and drivers happy. If your child is late, please park and walk to collect your child.
Seafield Avenue Gate
This gate must be kept closed in the mornings to ensure young children remain in the grounds before and after school. The lock can be opened by older children, younger children will need help by an adult or older student as they enter. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our children safe.
Winter weather is back, keep warm and dry this week.
Kindest Regards,
Jodie Higgins

This day will provide the students with an opportunity to be immersed in a rich and cultural experience through a variety of activities and celebrations that embrace the Italian culture and language.
The day will commence with a special Italian assembly in the Multi-Purpose Room. At this assembly each year level will have the chance to showcase their fantastic knowledge and understanding of the Italian language and culture, through songs, role plays and dances. At this point, unfortunately we are unable to invite parents to this assembly due to Covid-19 restrictions, however the assembly will be recorded, and you will be sent a link. If restrictions change, we will notify you.
Other activities for the students throughout the day include:
- An Italian performer
- A costume parade
- Italian card games
- A bocce tournament
- An Italian photo booth
- A Tarantella dance lesson
- A special Italian tuckshop lunch (information will be sent closer to the time)

The students are also encouraged to come to school either dressed in the colours of the Italian flag (green, white and red) or in an Italian themed costume, for example, a soccer player, a pizza maker, a gondolier, Pinocchio, an ancient Roman, an Italian painter etc. Please do not go to any unnecessary expense, but rather use what you have at home.
If you would like to contribute an Italian activity to your child’s class on the day or prior e.g., cooking, a slideshow from your trip to Italy, an Italian storybook, sharing some family Italian traditions and customs, artefacts from Italy etc., please speak to your child’s class teacher.
We are all looking forward to this special day!
Grazie,
Signora Prestwich, Italian Teacher

As you are likely to have heard in conversation with your child- our SALA Art Exhibition has been a key focus for classes so far this term, and with the theme "Imagining Tomorrow" the students have been using their creativity and imagination while engaging in a broad range of learning.
All the students have been working hard to create an individual piece for the show, as well as working collaboratively on a class place.
The Art Exhibition will be held on Thursday the 16th of September (Week 9), so save the date!
