Dear Families,
We are very excited to introduce our newest member of our community – Joey!!!
Along with our new school values - Excellence, Connection and Gratitude we have introduced 5 Learner Dispositions.
We strongly believe that if your child is skillful in applying these dispositions they will thrive. Having set dispositions helps us as a community keep focused and have a common language to support students.
Our Learner Dispositions are:

At our most recent assembly the Mrs Steciuk’s year 4/5 group role played ways we can use Learner dispositions to overcome challenges. The teachers will continue to develop the teach how the dispositions can be used. I strongly encourage you to also use them at home.
Congratulations to all those students who achieved our first set of new certificates awarded for showing these dispositions.

Don’t forget to attend our AGM on Wednesday 22nd March at 7pm to hear about our new Strategic Plan and to meet Joey! The AGM booklet will be provided with reports tabled so we can use the meeting as a great opportunity for you to hear about our future plans as we continue aim for excellence at St Joseph’s Kingswood. As I write, our year 6 students are on the way home from camp at Kangaroo Island. It sounds like they have had an amazing time …. I hear the food was great! The year 5’s will be heading off at the end of the term for their camp in the hills.
A reminder that following Monday’s public holiday we have a pupil free day next Tuesday 14th March. The staff will be undertaking training with Autism SA to develop their knowledge and skills to help children with needs and in turn enable staff to more effectively work with all students.

Harmony Day
We are celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday 21st March. Children are encouraged to wear either orange (could be a touch of e.g. ribbon/socks or an entire orange outfit) or tranditional cultural attire. We will also be having our St Joseph's Day Mass at 12pm in the church - which parents/carers/families are very welcome to attend.
Thank you to all those who attended the Ash Wednesday Liturgy. It was a very solemn and special occasion. At this Mass we launched our yearly Caritas: Project Compassion Appeal. Your child/ren would have brought home a Project Compassion money box last week. Please give generously to help support an organization that works very hard to help those in need. Caritas Australia also have an online portal with plenty of information about their outreach and the opportunity to donate money online. Money Boxes are to be sent back to school in Week 11.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM 2023
This weekend we will be commencing the 2023 Sacramental Program. Please join us on Sunday 12th March at 9:00am for the Presentation of this year’s candidates.
ST JOSEPH’S DAY MASS
On Tuesday 21st March we will be celebrating Mass for the Feast of St Joseph. All are invited to attend at 12pm at Our Lady of Dolours Church, next to our school.

Year 3 Strings Program
Our Year Three Strings Program started off super well, with the students under the expert guidance of Julian Ferraretto. The students had fun exploring their new instrument and making some interesting sounds. We look forward to hearing the students progress in a concert next term.

AusKick Coodinator needed! (R-1 students)
St Joseph’s Kingswood has a proud tradition of offering its own Auskick centre since 2008 and we would like this to continue this year.
Our Auskick Centre is based at Urrbrae High School (Please don’t register for the Unley Jets Auskick as this is run by the club NOT our school) on a Saturday morning between 8.30-9.30am in Term 2.
The school will not open registrations until we have a coordinator or group of parents that can run the program. The AFL provide all coordinators with resources, equipment and information seminars to assist in running the program.
We are looking for a new Auskick coordinator or group of parents to share the role for our centre. If you can assist, please let me know ASAP as we would like the program to begin early next Term.

STUDENT ARTICLE - MONASTERY EXCURSION
On Monday the year 5’s and 6’s walked to the monastery to join in prayer as a community. Fourteen people got chosen to read the stations of the cross in the sacred garden and the others got to walk from each station thinking about Jesus and the difficult journey he had to go on. I got chosen to read the second station which is when Jesus was made to bear his cross. There was a statue of each station throughout the sacred garden. After that we started our gratitude hunt where we found objects in nature. For instance, we had to find something that we can give to someone to make them happy. We also got the opportunity to go inside the church where we got to pray together and think about Jesus. I felt so lucky that I got to have this incredible experience.
