Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last week we celebrated St. Joseph’s Day and Harmony Day with a myriad of colour and activities. We began the day with Mass, followed by our annual fund-raising stalls led by our industrious year 3 and 4 class groups. It was wonderful to see all the students' hard work planning, collaborating and organising come to fruition with such success. Thank you also to the parents who contributed to the stalls. We appreciate your support of our school community. After recess, we turned our focus to Harmony Day, where we celebrated diversity in our school and the wider community. Students enjoyed a rotation of activities in house groups, with the focus being on team work and diversity. It was a wonderful day of celebration and learning.

Our Student Representative Council has been elected for 2019, with badges being presented in assembly. We have two groups – semester one and semester two. Our semester 1 group met for the first time on Wednesday to discuss their role and purpose and to make some initial decisions about their first actions. Mr Joshua Bratt will be leading the SRC this year.

The Annual General Meeting of the School Board was held on Tuesday 19th March. I am delighted to announce the elections of Mrs Jodie Avery, Mr Matthew Holden and Mr Kelvin Warner as new board members, along with the re-election of Mr Matt Sykes for a further 2-year term. At the meeting, Mrs Marita Carman, Mrs Catherine Fox, Mrs Jane Edwards and Mr Damian Peterson were farewelled after distinguished service to the Board over many years. Copies of the AGM reports are available from the Front Office for those families who are interested.
A reminder to all families that we will be hosting Parent & Teacher meetings over 1st, 2nd and 3rd of April. Bookings need to be made through SZapp, prior to Thursday 28th March. I strongly encourage all families to take the time to meet with the teachers to discuss term 1 progress, and to set goals for term 2.
Hi everyone, I hope you have had another great fortnight. Last week we had a wonderful St Joseph’s/Harmony Day. It was lovely to see the Year 3 and 4 students having fun raising money for such a worthy cause. One of the things I love about Catholic schools, is that we are always willing to give back to the community and help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Starting next week, we will be using a slightly different format for managing our waste at St Joseph’s Kingswood. We will now place our soft plastics and some rubbish that would have gone to landfill into our big bin located on the Seafield Ave side of our school. This waste will be collected by SUEZ ResourceCO South Australia and used as Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF). This fuel will be used in place of fossil fuels to power the Brighton Cement kiln. This process improves environment outcomes by reducing greenhouse gases as well as keeping rubbish out of landfill.
Saturday the 30th of April millions of people around the world will switch off their electronics at 8.30pm for Earth Hour. This call to actions shows that we are serious about climate change and that we care about our world. Please think about taking the pledge to join people in over 160 countries and switching off at home every little bit helps. As a response, St Joseph’s Kingswood will switch off all electronics and screens from 10am until 2pm this Thursday. To find out more follow the link below and/or watch the video.
On a personal note, my friends, family and I recently celebrated the christening of my daughter Isobel. We held the ceremony here at the Our Lady of Dolours Church and moved into the school hall for afternoon tea afterwards. My friends and family were very impressed by the look of our school and commented on how great Father Bob was. A big thank you to Karen de Sousa for helping out with the organisation.

Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival 2019
Second-hand uniform sale
Despite the short notice, our second-hand uniform sale on Friday was a resounding success. Thank you to everyone who supported the P&F fundraising efforts, and walked away happy customers, picking up various well-priced uniforms.
Sausage Sizzle

The sun was shining, the sausages were sizzling and we enjoyed a great day fundraising for the playground on the Green (Seafield Ave). Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by to grab a sausage and drink, and especially also to those who volunteered to help out at the stand. We are grateful also to some of the school families and wider community who generously supported us.
Thank you...
- Trevor & Judy Routley (Elsie's grandparents), from Routley's Bathroom Kitchen Laundry for donating $100 towards supplies to keep the stand running smoothly throughout the day
- Antoine & Adele Nemer (George's parents) for donating ice from Liberty Fuel to keep the drinks cool
- Jassmyn Murphy from Frewville Foodland for donating a $50 voucher to buy supplies
- Jamie from Brighton Foodland for selling sausages at a discounted price
