Dear Families and Friends,
There are so many reasons to be proud of our staff and students at St Joseph’s!
Winners - Congratulations to the boys 5/6 SAPSASA Soccer Team who won the knockout final last week 14-0! They are such a talented group of athletes! This team has been coached by Mr D, supported by so many parents at each game. The competition began with 60 teams from ‘Small Schools’ competition in SA. Congratulations Ben, Felix, Eli, George, Kye, Mason, Boston, Timothy, Jaxon, Ari, Cruz and Dom.
I also would like to congratulate Mason G who has been selected for the School Sport SA Under 12 Boys State Soccer Team, for the second year in a row! Mason will be representing South Australia at the Australian Championship in Ballarat early next term. Congratulations Mason!

Ethics Olympiad Teams
Earlier this term, some of our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Ethics Olympiad, led by Dr. Burkett from the United States. We competed against students from across Australia and around the world.
Throughout the day, students demonstrated their ability to speak clearly and confidently on Zoom. They actively listened to the cases presented and responded to other schools in a respectful discussion.
In preparation for the Olympiad, the students met weekly to explore the set of ethical cases and researched ethical principles including deontology and utilitarianism. They memorised meaningful quotes from prominent philosophers to use in their discussions.
"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." Aristotle
A special congratulations to our Year 5 team, who placed 9th out of 26 schools—an outstanding achievement! Congratulations to all the children who participated: Lia, Violet, Cassie, Olivia and Elliot (in Year 6) as well as Harrison, Oliver M, Maddie T, Sophia and Alexa (in Year 5).
This experience helped students grow skills that will support them in all aspects of life.
We are incredibly proud of your teamwork and enthusiasm.
Thank you to Kate Mueller, who wears many hats in our school including facilitating many of the STRETCH programs we offer. This was Kate’s first time participating in the Ethics Olympiad and I commend her as she learned alongside the children, and very capably guided them through the process and the competition.
We look forward to entering another two teams from Year 5 and 6 in next year’s Ethics Olympiad.
Italian Day!
What a day it was – so much fun, colour and most importantly lots of smiles. Watching the day unfold, from a magnificent assembly and dress-up parade of all things Italian, to a fun-filled day ending with the whole school dancing the Tarantella together. It was wonderful to see our staff join in activities, creating fun for our students, thanks Mr D! It is certainly a great place to work. Molte Grazie to Signora Prestwich for preparing a fabulous Italian Day for us all.

Catholic Schools Music Festival
I am looking forward to watching our Festival Choir and Rocktopuses perform at the Catholic Schools Music Festival at the Convention Centre this week. Each child participating is to be commended for their ongoing dedication to rehearse weekly at school plus at home throughout the year, I know the performances will be an excellent standard and am proud to have our school represented on the stage. Well done to the Rocktopuses who were successful for the second year in a row in their audition, and notably were asked to perform on 2 nights! Congratulations to our amazing drum teacher, Nick Russell, and all the students in our Percussion Ensemble. All the best on Monday and Wednesday night!
Lastly, a very big “Thank you!” to Bec Pfitzner, our exceptional Music Teacher and Performing Arts Coordinator for your dedication, patience and time in preparing our Festival Choir for their performance.

Reminder that any withdrawals must be submitted in writing by the end of this week or a term's fees in lieu with be invoiced.

National Child Protection Week 7-13th September 2025
2025 theme: Every conversation matters: Shifting conversation to action.
This year’s theme highlighted that the importance of open discussion, without action they are just words. It is important that with go beyond listening to acting and if it doesn’t work the first time, we keep going so all children feel safe. Families can click the link to Safe Environments For All . This link provides access to the full suite of child protection documents and resources and is available via our website as well.

Welcome baby Saccardo!
I’m pleased to announce the safe arrival of Vanessa Saccardo’s beautiful daughter, Isla. Mum and bub are all doing well, no doubt with lots of cuddles from her big brother and doting Dad.
Lastly
Thank you to our dedicated Parents & Friends group for the wonderful Winter Wonderland cocktail event. It was a marvellous night of connection as a community, with funds raised going toward the rejuvenation of the garden area at the Seafield Ave/Cambridge Tce corner.
I take this opportunity to thank Christine Farrugia for leading the school while I was away so ably! Thank is extended to Joshua Bennett, Michael Mastrangelo and Paula McKerlie for their leadership and support as well during this time. It was comforting to know things were in good hands.
I wish everyone a lovely break over the holidays, be safe and hopefully enjoy some time with family and time for rest to return refreshed for Term 4 on Monday 13th October!
P.S. Don’t forget to book haircuts for Photo Day on the first Wednesday back!
P.P.S Remember to invite grandparents and special friends for a special morning on Friday 24th October!
Kind Regards,

End of Term Reflection
As we reach the end of another wonderful school term, I find myself reflecting on so many achievements, so many experiences, and so many gatherings that have brought our school community together. While it has been a term filled with hard work, it remains my favourite term of the year – there's something truly special about the energy and growth we witness during this time.
Sacramental Program Update
Our Sacramental Program candidates had their final workshop on Sunday, and what a journey it has been! We are all looking forward with great anticipation to the celebration of their First Holy Communion. The dedication and reverence these young people have shown throughout their preparation has been truly inspiring. Well done to all our candidates!
For families interested in the 2026 Sacramental Program, please watch this space for upcoming information and registration details.
Reflection on Our Time in Church
Throughout the year, and over the years, we have shared so many beautiful moments spent in God's House. Our weekly Monday gatherings continue to be a cornerstone of our school community – I love that our most regular school gathering is simply to come together in prayer. Week after week, I am filled with pride at the different iterations of prayer that our classes create and share. Prayer should be an expression of who we are, and we have certainly been achieving this authentic connection with our faith.
Our classes also attend Mass at 9:15am on Fridays, providing a wonderful opportunity to connect with Fr John and our broader parish community. This weekly tradition strengthens the bonds between our school and parish family. All families are warmly welcome to join us for Friday Mass at 9:15am.
Made In the Image of God Curriculum
As we look towards Term 4, you will receive letters about an important series of lessons exploring our Sexuality and Human Relationships Curriculum. The "Made In The Image Of God" (MITIOG) program is specially designed for Catholic school students from Reception to Year 12 here in South Australia.
This curriculum is beautifully grounded in our Catholic belief that every human being is made in God's image and likeness. It celebrates the Church's teaching about the dignity of each person, honouring every individual's worth and their right to experience respectful and healthy relationships.
What makes this program special is its inclusive approach – it acknowledges and respects the uniqueness of each person's inherent goodness. The curriculum ensures that education about human sexuality and respectful relationships is delivered in an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive way, always respecting each individual's right to make healthy and informed choices.
Our teachers are well-supported through comprehensive professional learning to deliver this important curriculum with care and expertise. Some elements of the program also connect with the Government's Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum and the national Health and PE curriculum.
We look forward to sharing more details with families as we approach Term 4.
I wish our community a restful break, and I look forward to a joy-filled Term 4.
Christine Farrugia
Thanks to members of Junior Choir and Band who performed at our recent Father’s Day breakfast.

Earlier this term we had a visit from some musicians from Cabra College. Our students in Band and Rocktopuses had a workshop with Cabra students and then performed a musical item together to our school. It was a wonderful opportunity to build connections and hear music from Cabra’s drum corp and stage band.

Festival Choir and Rocktopuses have been busy practising for the Catholic Schools Music Festival performance. We are looking forward to this musical extravaganza at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
In other music news, congratulations to Sophia Zhuo, who recently received an A for her Grade 3 violin exam. Also, congratulations to Chloe Martin, for coming second in the Adelaide Brass Eisteddfod and receiving an A for her Grade 3 trumpet exam.

SAPSASA Knockout Small Schools Statewide Soccer Champions
Congratulations to our year 5/6 Soccer team on winning the Small Schools Statewide Championship on Wednesday after convincingly winning the Grand Final against St Francis Assisi Newton.
In the first round of knockout our school defeated 4 other teams convincingly to progress to the second round. Several weeks later our school played their second-round games against North have and Aberfoyle Hub again winning convincingly. On Wednesday our boys played Port Noarlunga in the Semi Final and St Francis Assisi in the Grand Final, winning both games.
Special thanks to all the parents that assisted with transporting and cheering the team.
Well Done St Joseph’s School, Kingswood!
A few reminders to ensure students return to school in correct uniform as this supports a positive start to the term and reinforces our shared commitment to high standards.
- The first 2 weeks we provide flexibility as the weather changes to wear either Summer OR Winter uniform (NB: Uniforms cannot be mixed, it must be either the Winter or Summer uniform in its entirety).
- Hats are required most days.
- Hair – All shoulder length hair needs to be neatly tied back with school colours blue, yellow and white. Please ensure hair ties, headbands, accessories and ribbons are in keeping with the uniform standards (ie keeping uniform as rather than a statement). Razor cuts, patterns cut into hair, long mullets are not permitted.
- Coloured nail polish is not to be worn
- Jewellery - earrings must be either plain sleepers or studs and a simple chain with a religious symbol can be worn. No other fashion jewellery.
- All uniform items other than footwear must be purchased from Vinnies at Hawthorn, or our second-hand uniforms to ensure uniformity of colour/style/fabric. This is particularly regarding formal shorts as there are some non-uniform styles and shades in the yard. Please ensure you make time in the upcoming holidays to visit Vinnies and purchase new uniform items if needed
- Black shoes only with formal uniform, no sneakers
- Sneakers with PE uniform are predominantly black, white or dark navy with no fluro colours
- Please check clothing and hats are clearly named as it greatly assists with them finding their way back if misplaced.
