Hi all,
I hope you are well as we prepare for the mid-year break. As I end my time as the Acting Principal, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of the parents, staff and students who have supported me during this time. Everyone’s kind words of encouragement have meant a lot. I have learnt so much and absolutely loved serving the community during this time. I have met with Jodie on several occasions and I know she is eager to start next term and learn about all the wonderful things we do here. I am sure you will all make her feel welcome when you see her.
Earlier this week our Knockout Soccer and Netball teams played other schools in a first-round match. Unfortunately, they both didn’t make it through to the second round but they gave it their all and represented the school with pride. Our senior students are also looking forward to representing our school and having a bit of fun at the Netball carnival held at ETSA park in week 10. St Joseph’s has a wonderful sporting program despite its smaller size and we are very lucky to have Mr D as our PE teacher and sports coordinator. Steve does an amazing job in managing all of the events we participate in and I thank him very much for his effort.
On Wednesday 23rd of June we will welcome the Royal Flying Doctors to our school. They are bringing their full-size flight simulator plane for the students to walk through and give a talk on some of the important work they do for rural communities. I know the students are very excited and can’t wait to see the plane from the inside.
On the same day we will also hold our JOEYS graduation Liturgy. This marks the time our JOEYS have finished their program and are about to start school next term. I would like to thank Judy Reinboth our JOEYS teacher and the Reception team for supporting this important transition period and preparing these young students for life at school. We very much welcome all of these new students and families to our community. I can’t wait to see how they develop next semester.
If you’re lucky enough to be going away in the break, safe travels, and we look forward to welcoming you back next term.
Take care,
Jamie Deverson
Hi all,
I cannot believe that my time at St Joseph’s is coming to an end next week. How time flies when you are having fun and I certainly have. I considered it an absolute pleasure and gift to have been welcomed so warmly into this community by the staff, students and so many parents and families.
What has impressed me the strongly is what a dynamic and creative learning space St Joseph’s is. You have an amazing music program that encourages creativity, participation and learning new instruments. The opportunity for your children to be involved in so many sporting teams and events is to be commended. Finally, the learning spaces both indoors and outside are exciting and the children are wanting to spend time in them to explore, create and learn. I will certainly be taking some images back to my ‘other’ school as we start planning to revitalise our learning spaces. You have inspired me!
As you would know one of the best strategies in supporting strong mental health and positive wellbeing is to have a positive mindset and to also express gratitude for what and who we have in our lives. I am grateful for the opportunity that I have been given to be here this term and I extend a heartfelt thank you for including me in your story – even if it was only for a short time.
Thank you and God’s blessings,
Emily Sayer
Greetings, dear St Joseph’s Community!
As we celebrate world Refugee Day (June 19th), let us remember all those who come to our shores looking for refuge and protection. Let us honour their experiences and pray to God that they find peace here in Australia.
A reading from the book of Exodus (14:10-14)
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
The second part of our front office Catholic Identity project has been delivered. See below the lovely Pia from Little Flower Pottery Studio with her creation: The St Joseph’s School prayer bowl. At the beginning of the term Mr Deverson and Mr Bratt gave each person in year 6 twenty dollars with the challenge of starting our own business. We were able to work in groups or as an individual. It took a lot of planning and organising to get these business together. Each group or individual had to create a spreadsheet showing what they were going to sell, how much you are going to sell your products for and were we are going to sell. At recess and lunch on Wednesday in Week 9, and Thursday in Week 10, our class will be selling the things we have made or baked. Some things that will be for sale include key-rings, cakes, earrings, candles, lollies, and much more. So kids, ask your parents for some money and come support local business’s - Mr Bratt’s Christmas present won’t pay for itself.

The Year 1/2 classes have been learning about special places in geography this term. Mrs Steciuk's class created dioramas of a special place in Australia and are proud to show you their hard work.
